what is cd+g? I know the basics…if you buy a cd+g karaoke cd and put it into your dvd player, it won’t show the lyrics. Do I need a karaoke cd player to play these karaoke cds (form walmart, target, etc…) the correct way? If so, where can I buy karaoke cds w/vcd format? Also, if so, did manufacturers make their k.cds only cd+g format because of marketing reasons? You know, so that people will have to purchase karaoke machines?
CD+G stands for Compact Disc plus Graphics. These are not video discs and are not DVD or VCD discs. They are standard audio discs with the graphics (lyrics) encoded into the normally unused subchannel of the sound tracks.
You need a player capable of reading the graphic information in order to display the lyrics on a TV or monitor. This is why standard disc players only play the audio.
